This partly still untouched region is situated in central Italy by the southern Adriatic Sea and is the third-smallest cultivation surface of all Italian regions with its 7,650 hectares.
The grounds in the mainly mountainous and hilly landscape consist of calcareous clay lending strength and structure to the wines. It is in particular the red Montepulciano grape which achieves very good results in Molise.
A recommendable, motivated top vineyard from one of three DOC zones is the Cantina Borgo di Collored.
