It was not until the 50s that in this fascinating, very green region with nearly 17,000 hectares of cultivation surface in the heart of Italy a qualitative new beginning was made after a long period of neglect.
Just as in Tuscany, the wet winters and the sunny, wind-chilled summers on calcareous clay grounds and sandy soils are perfect prerequisites for delicious wines.
Among the dominating red wines, the Montefalco is likely to be the best-known one. Among the white wines it is undoubtedly the Orvieto, accounting for two thirds of the DOC(G) zones.
Excellent wines come from Cardeto, Colpetrone or Perticaia
