In this part of the Basque country, to the west of the Pyrenees, approx. 60 percent of the wines cultivated on the roughly 18,000 hectares are red ones, and 30 percent, Rosé. Garnacha and Tempranillo grapes yield fruity, soft wines having a high potential.
Excellent matured wines (Crianzas) are coming from Pagos de Araiz and Artazuri.
